Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter met with orthopedist James Andrews on Thursday to get another opinion on his injured left knee.
Carter has missed two games since reinjuring the knee in a game against Houston on Saturday.
Team doctors list Carter as day-to-day with a strained quadriceps tendon. Carter visited Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. Results weren’t immediately known.
“We’re just going to take another look at it,” Toronto general manager Glen Grunwald said. “We’re optimistic he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
An MRI exam on his knee Sunday showed no structural damage.
Iverson day-to-day
After five weeks of injury woes, the 76ers got some good news about Allen Iverson.
An MRI showed that his right thumb, feared broken in a 101-99 overtime win Wednesday night over the Clippers, is only sprained, meaning he could play Friday against the Cavaliers.
“You can’t predict anything,” 76ers coach Larry Brown said. “Whatever happens, you’ve just got to move on. That’s why you have a team.”
Iverson, who has won three of the last four NBA scoring championships, is averaging 28.8 points and five assists while shooting 36.1 percent in four games this season.
Anderson still hospitalized
Trail Blazers guard Derek Anderson remained hospitalized with a concussion he sustained Wednesday against the Grizzlies. He is not expected to make Portland’s four-game trip, which starts Friday.
