My most precious gift ever received was pre-sweetened Kool-Aid. When I was stationed in the Republic of South Vietnam during 1969-1970, Kool-Aid was a precious commodity because of the rancid-tasting water. We had a grocer who had a business behind us in Kankakee by the name of Alex Weiner, who would always ask how I was doing in Vietnam when my mother shopped in the store. He also asked what I needed for a care package and Kool-Aid was among the items. I received a case, yes a case, of pre-sweetened Kool-Aid on Christmas Day. That was 240 packets–enough for my platoon for a while that Christmas of 1969.
