Fred Mitchell’s story, “Life of the Party” (Tribune, Dec. 24), illustrated why the Cubs will never win a World Series with Sammy Sosa in the lineup.

Sosa’s selfishness is overwhelming and taken in the context of a team sport, his attitude creates nothing but tension and jealousy among teammates no matter what they say publicly.

At this point in his career, one would think Sosa could put aside his childish urges and attempt to make those around him better and share some of his own success with the team.

The day baseball evolves into a solitary sport is the day Selfish Sammy becomes a champion. Until then, teams such as Arizona and Anaheim will continue to win championships.
