Nancy E. Weisman, 49, an attorney for Rush North Shore Medical Center died in a car accident Monday, Dec. 30, while vacationing near Oceanside, Calif. Born in Cleveland, Mrs. Weisman received a bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and came to Chicago for graduate school. She got a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1976, and in 1982 she received a law degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. During law school, Mrs. Weisman began working as a law clerk at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and worked her way up to associate general counsel. “Her ability to understand and appreciate a problem from many different angles, is why she rose so quickly through the ranks,” said Max Brown, general counsel of Rush-Presbyterian. In 1989, Mrs. Weisman became general counsel of Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie. She also served on the board of directors of the Jubilate Children’s Choir of the North Shore for more than 10 years while her daughter was a soloist. She was a former board member of the Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston and was active in her temple. Mrs. Weisman was also a photographer who liked to make craft projects, spend time at the Art Institute and go to the opera, said her mother, Marian Weisman. She was always ready to help andwas known to pick up stray animals. Mrs. Weisman had a personality that allowed her to make lifelong friends in minutes, her mother said. Mrs. Weisman is also survived by her husband of 20 years, David Rice; a daughter, Adria Rice; a son, Jordan Rice; and two sisters Amy Weisman-Berg and Wendy Weisman-Dermer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Temple Beth Israel, 3601 W. Dempster St., Skokie.
