Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

All the yakkety-yak about Trent Lott, whether he is or is not a racist, did not reflect well on us as rational and intelligent Americans. It does not matter if he is a racist. If he is, then it was racists who voted for him. The last time I checked, and it must have been sometime before the 2000 election, whoever gets the most votes is elected to do the job, like it or lump it.

Instead of holding up a microscope to Lott, his alleged beliefs and hasty apologies, let’s take a look in the mirror at ourselves and our own environment.

Is your city integrated or segregated? How about your neighborhood? Your kids’ school? Your workplace? How many friends do you have of other races and religions? Have people of other races and religions married into your family and if so, how have you treated them?

Answer those questions for yourself, and then take a look at your elected officials. If we the people put folks who have outmoded and unethical ideas in office, we the people deserve what we get. Let a bigot serve his term. Then all of you citizens who want individuals of integrity running the country rather than racists, get out and vote.
