– Organizers say the Road America auto racing track will be transformed into a campground for motorcycle riders attending the Harley-Davidson 100th anniversary celebration this summer. Richard D’Aloia of Destination Wisconsin says the group is pairing up with Road America and Homecoming Tours to produce the event Aug. 25 to Sept. 1.
– Ford Motor Co. is using the Rolling Stones’ song “Start Me Up’ in ads promoting its full line of vehicles. The ad campaign began immediately after the turn of the new year on Jan. 1, the Detroit News reports.
– The celebration of Ford Motor Co.’s 100th anniversary is expected to draw thousands of car enthusiasts from across the country. Based on the early interest, Ford expects at least 100,000 people to visit Dearborn June 12-16. Other Ford-related venues in the Detroit area also are expecting large crowds. Ford plans to use 152 acres near its headquarters in Dearborn to display thousands of vehicles owned by collectors around the country along with current Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo models.
– Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s largest automaker, plans to more than double sales of its Grandeur XG, Santa Fe, Click and other vehicles in Japan this year to meet growing demand. Hyundai Motor expects to sell 7,000 vehicles to grab 3 percent of Japan’s imported car market, up from the 3,000 units forecast for last year, confirming a report by the Korea Economic Daily.
