Shirlee Dinell, nee Hornstein, was born on May 25, 1927, in Chicago, and she passed on Saturday, January 4, 2003. Shirlee was the beloved wife of Jerome Dinell for 57 incredible years; and the wonderful mother of Bonnie Dinell-Dimond, Terri Vanderwerff (Dale) and Judi Sapoznik. Surviving grandchildren are Nicolas Dimond, Aaron Vanderwerff, Rachel Vanderwerff and Marc Sapoznik; and she is also survived by her sister Anita Rothenberg (Leon). She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Helen Hornstein. In addition to her dedication to her family, Shirlee was also an accomplished artist in every sense of the word. She studied at and graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, and was fascinated by media ranging from oil paints to papermaking to sculpture. Her work was exhibited in several shows, and her passion for creativity and thinking was recognized by everyone who she knew. Funeral services will be held at Temple Anshe Sholom, 20820 South Western Avenue, in Olympia Fields, Illinois, Monday, January 6, at 1 p.m. Interment Beverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirlee Dinell Memorial Fund, established at Temple Anshe Sholom. Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral Home handling arrangements. Info 773-774-3333.
