Elizabeth C. “Betty’ Sandy, 84, of Deerfield, treasured loving wife for 61 years of husband, Robert; cherished mother of Robert Jr. (Joan Phillips) of Waterville, ME and the late Lyman (Alison Schuler) of Albuquerque, NM; devoted grandmother of Mary and John of Waterville and Ted of Albuquerque; beloved daughter of the late Mary and Charles E. Carroll of Libertyville; dear sister of Charles Carroll Jr. (the late Kathryn) of Alamo, CA, John Carroll (Eleanor) of Mundelein and the late Mary Jane; fond aunt of many dear nieces and nephews. Born in Libertyville, she resided there for 32 years and graduated from Libertyville High School. She studied piano at the Chicago Conservatory of Music where she met her husband, won the piano competition and performed Beethoven’s 4th Concerto with orchestra at the commencement in 1941. She taught piano for 55 years in Libertyville and Deerfield to students from there and many surrounding communities. In past years, she was a member of the Deerfield League of Women Voters, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother and a volunteer in the Deerfield School Library, in addition to a busy teaching schedule. A memorial gathering will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. Interment private. Donations will be appreciated in her memory to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1232 22nd St. N.W., Washington, DC 20037-1292 or to the American Stroke Association, 208 S.
