Scott Merritt had 14 points and 11 rebounds as No. 24 Marquette, playing a dominating inside game, held off Saint Louis 60-54 on Tuesday night.
Marquette (9-3, 1-1 Conference USA) recovered from consecutive losses to Dayton and East Carolina that knocked the Golden Eagles down 11 spots in the poll. Marquette outrebounded Saint Louis (6-6, 0-1) 38-18, including 16-4 on the offensive end.
Marquette won despite a meager contribution from Conference USA’s leading scorer. Dwyane Wade missed his first five shots and missed part of the second half with bruised ribs, finishing with just six points.
OKLAHOMA 73, UCONN 63: Hollis Price, Oklahoma’s senior guard, had a career-high 33 points, including 10 free throws in the game’s final minutes, to lead the No. 9 Sooners to a 73-63 win over No. 3 Connecticut on Tuesday.
