Carol Marin has a long and respected career as a “serious journalist” in Chicago and nationwide. What, then, was the reason behind her little tattoo adventure and why did the Tribune decide to print the piece (“A sign of the times for mother and son,” Commentary, Jan. 1)? If she found it to be an enlightening and enriching experience to share with her 16-year-old son, then that is her business; the rest of Chicago need not know.
With all of the quality writers in Chicago, and Marin usually is one, I cannot fathom why the loyal readers of the Chicago Tribune were subjected to this piece of uninspired and inconsequential nonsense. What will we be treated to next, family piercings?
