The recent stories regarding the dismal holiday sales reported by stores has gotten me to thinking. Maybe it’s not weakness in consumer spending. Could it possibly be that consumers are becoming annoyed when they see the Christmas decorations going up before Halloween? When Thanksgiving no longer matters for any reason other than the official beginning of the Christmas shopping spree?

No, I really don’t think the economy has much to do with the poor holiday sales this year.

I think that the consumer is getting wise to the greed and commercialism that the retailers have bestowed upon a holiday that should be a celebration of the birth of Christ. We are tired of being told that the more we spend, the better Christmas will be.
