Robert C. Burcker, 84, of Pompano Beach, died on Jan. 1, 2003. Robert was born on March 29, 1918 in Chicago. He graduated from Drummond Elementary School and M.F. Tuley High School. After two years of college, Robert joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was involved in three invasion actions against the Japanese in the southwest Pacific and received four battle citations and the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After his tour of duty, he was employed as a production manager for a machinery manufacturer. He changed employment a few times, managing a cemetery, assistant administrator of a hospital, and then going into business for himself, owning and operating three sporting goods stores in the Philadelphia area. He retired at the age of 47 and moved to Pompano Beach, FL. He was the president of G.A.V. South condominium in 1976 and was an active member of the Pompano Beach Elks Lodge since 1971. He is survived by his two brothers, Henry and Norman; nephews and nieces; and numerous friends. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Acacia Park Cemetery, 7800 W.
