I was outraged by “In rare rite, women pledge to live their lives as virgins” (Page 1, Jan. 4). We humans can’t get past our vain little religions that promise pie in the sky and the idea that humans are the center of creation. Without this toxic anthropocentrism, religion would not be possible.
People create gods because they desperately want to believe that there is life beyond death; then they “humbly” prostrate themselves before their created gods. But adoration is not enough for some; they want to marry their created god. Why would any woman want to marry a mere mortal, when she can be a god’s spouse?
We’ll know humans have made progress when religion is put in the waste bin of history.
