– Peter M. Butterfield has been named president and chief executive of Kia Motors America, becoming the first American to head the U.S. sales subsidiary of the Korean-based company. Butterfield, 49, had been executive vice president and chief operating officer. He formerly lived in Glencoe and Winnetka and is a graduate of New Trier East High School.

– General Motors Corp. has added a year to the contract of Vice Chairman Bob Lutz because the automaker is happy with the job he’s done revamping the styling of its cars and trucks, Chief Executive Rick Wagoner says. Lutz, 70, was hired by the world’s largest automaker in August 2001 and he began working for GM the next month under a three-year contract. Wagoner did not disclose terms of the extension.
