I read Mike Slachetka’s “Telemarketer’s plea” (Voice of the people, Jan. 5). The marketers have no idea of the financial status of the people they are calling. Some of the requests for a charitable donation start with $50. When you say that is too much, the request goes down, but they cannot accept a donation below a certain figure. I have made offers I could afford and they were not accepted.
I am annoyed by the frequent calls, the hang-ups, the long messages on my recorder and the lack of understanding for my personal situation. I pride myself on being respectful at all times, so I expect the same respect. I have donated money, clothes and time to many organizations. I still do.
