Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Not since “Gold-eneye” for Nintendo 64 took college kids hostage in their dorm rooms with its timeless multiplayer appeal has the Bond franchise produced a truly special console game.

Until now.

“Nightfire,” which can be played on all three top consoles as well as PC, is not based on an actual “007” film, but the story line is right there. MI6 learns a certain Rafael Drake has stolen missile-guidance hardware, which leads Bond to chase him across the world through various exotic venues.

Gameplay is a delicious buffet of first-person adventure, cinematic sequences, vehicle driving and turret shooting. You even get to use famous Q gadgets and a new type of gun on every mission.

Aside from Pierce Brosnan allowing his face to be scanned, “Nightfire” won’t show you any amazing graphics you haven’t seen before, but all animations and camera angles are serviceable.

The game’s classic split-screen, multi-player mode is stronger than ever. There are 12 scenarios with plenty of backdrop levels. Even if you don’t have three friends to play with, you can create computer-controlled “bots.”
