The Mobile Revelers and North Charleston Lowgators were done proud Tuesday night: Two players just signed from those two developmental teams helped lead the Toronto Raptors to an 84-75 upset of the Washington Wizards.
Rafer Alston from the Revelers of the National Basketball Development League had 13 points and 11 assists, and Damone Brown from the NBDL’s Lowgators had 13 points as the injury-ravaged Raptors won their second in a row despite dressing just eight players–including 10-day contract signees Alston, Brown and Art Long.
Alston was playing his third game with the Raptors. Brown joined the team earlier Tuesday.
Before the game, the Wizards said guard Jerry Stackhouse will be out at least a week with a pulled left groin.
Charlotte arena set
Owner Robert Johnson completed a deal with Charlotte that clears the way for construction of a $260 million downtown arena for the expansion team. The team begins play in fall 2004 in the Charlotte Coliseum.
