I was disappointed that Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson, Bruce Sutter, Lee Smith, and Ron Santo are not getting voted into the Hall of Fame. But it just shows playing for a losing franchise doesn’t help a player.
How many times have the Cubs advanced in the playoffs with any of these players on their teams? How many times have the Cubs been in the playoffs with these players? When the Cubs did make the playoffs, how did the Cubs and these players perform?
I’m no different than any other Cubs fan; I want the best for the team and the players. I hope they win the World Series every year and that their players receive all kinds of awards.
Until the Cubs start winning and winning consistently, however, they’ll be nothing but the “lovable losers.” And their players will be thought of in the same manner by the rest of baseball. In the past 10 years of players getting voted into the Hall of Fame, how many of those players inducted never played in the World Series in their careers? There have only been a couple. And, one of those inducted was Ferguson Jenkins in 1991.
