Chris Booker scored 27 points and hit two free throws with seven seconds left Saturday to lead Purdue to an 82-78 victory over Penn State.
Brandon Watkins had a chance to tie the game 80-80 with 8.6 seconds left but missed his first foul shot. Watkins intentionally missed the second shot, hoping Penn State could get another possession.
But Booker rebounded, was fouled and gave Purdue a four-point lead with two free throws.
“This was a huge win for us to find out how to win on the road,” Purdue coach Gene Keady said. “I couldn’t be happier.”
Purdue (11-3, 3-0 Big Ten) had seen a 13-point lead turn into a six-point deficit with 11:45 left.
Freshman walk-on Aaron Johnson led Penn State (5-9, 0-3) with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
