I read with interest the comments by Cook County State’s Atty. Richard Devine and DuPage County State’s Atty. Joe Birkett relating to George Ryan’s pardons and commutations of Death Row prisoners’ sentences (Metro, Jan. 13). Both men accused Ryan of being–imagine this!–a pharmacist. In their minds it is clear that neither a pharmacist nor, presumably, anyone who has not passed the bar, can reach a sound moral conclusion.

When was the last time you heard a good pharmacist joke?
