Kane County Coroner Chuck West on Monday identified Timothy Harper, 43, whose last known address was on the 900 block of East New York Street, as the person killed in Saturday night’s house fire on the near east side.
Harper was found in the basement of the ranch house in the 1300 block of Grand Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire required 18 firefighters to extinguish and destroyed the house.
West and Fire Marshall Kent Becker said they did not know the name of a second man found inside the house’s door suffering from smoke inhalation. He was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center, then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, but his condition on Monday was not known, Becker said.
The investigation into the fire’s cause continued Monday, but investigators have ruled out arson, Becker said.
