If the Rolling Stones can still fill stadiums, why can’t a middle-age college professor try out for “American Idol”?
That’s what 50-year-old Drew Cummings wants to know. Cummings has filed an age-discrimination lawsuit against Idol’s producers and Fox. Cummings says he was turned away from an audition in November because he’s too old. According to the show’s rules, contestants must be 16 to 24.
That doesn’t sit too well with the ol’ professor. “I find it hard to believe that age plays a part in determining the next ‘American Idol,’ ” he said. We find it hard to believe judge Simon Cowell (below) wouldn’t have had a field day with Cummings’ performance.
Idol returns to the airwaves tonight.
