Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The second season of “American Idol” debuted on Fox Tuesday, and pop music’s most prickly judge didn’t disappoint.

Simon Cowell came out firing at the young screechers and squawkers who put their questionable talents on display during the 90-minute opener. “They called me Kelly Osbourne,” one female auditioner sobbed.

Cowell promised to be even more venomous this year, saying last season’s contestants got off easy.

Some of Simon’s best quips:

– “It says here you went to ‘Fame’ high school. Did you get thrown out?”

– “You’re not going to Hollywood.

Get out.”

– “If you lived 2,000 years ago and sung like that, I think they would have stoned you.”

– To a crooner’s “sorry” after ending on a missed note: “My thoughts exactly.”

– And the icing on the cake: “Not even on ‘Bulgarian Idol.’ “
