After almost 80 years on the market, Yoo-hoo is still America’s No. 1 chocolate drink. And its taste, name and quirky looks are drawing a new generation of fans. With attention directed at the Gen Y crowd at the X Games (Yoo-hoo sponsors a skate-inline-bike team, Team Yoo-hoo), the company has successfully reintroduced itself as a hip alternative to sodas and sports drinks.
But even Yoo-hoo might finally face a worthy competitor. Mega corporations Coke and Nestle have teamed up to create Choglit, a chocolate drink with 16 percent skim milk. Considering the success of recently launched Vanilla and Diet Vanilla Coke, and the long-term loyalty of Coke consumers, a nutritious, milk-based chocolate drink might be enough to sway some Yoo-hooers.
