While drinking may be beneficial to some (“Heart health tied to frequency of drinks,” News, Jan. 9), it’s important to point out that one in five men and one in 10 women have problems with alcohol. Alcohol problems have enormous financial and social costs. If detected, they can be treated in ways that are less costly and prevent more serious illness.
With this renewed interest in alcohol, let’s make sure that the 11 million people who need help and treatment can get it.
