Paul I. Murphy Sr., formerly of Willowbrook/Clarendon Hills, passed away Jan. 25, 2003, beloved husband of the late Lucille, nee Palmer; loving father of Kitty (Thomas) Bajkowski, Paul Jr. (Maggie), Jane (Kenneth) Marcus, Jospeh (Jackie), Michael (Patty) and Terrence (Mary Lou); cherished grandfather of 16; proud great-grandfather of four; brother of Orva Sobieski and the late Ronald and Kenneth Murphy; dear friend of Katherine Monteleone; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Irwin was a decorated veteran of WWII having served in I Co. 2nd Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, in Iceland, Ireland, England and Normandy. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was lifelong member of Local 1 Ironworkers, a life member of DAV of Dupage County and member of VFW Post 2838 in Darien, in the American Legion Post of Hinsdale. Funeral Wednesday 9 a.m. from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park to Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Mass 9:30 a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
