I agree with letter writer Robert Boxer (“Bad drivers,” Voice of the People, Jan. 17) concerning his statement that we need to protect ourselves from bad drivers, but I disagree with his idea that having more police to enforce the laws wouldn’t be a help. These offenders are not only bad drivers, they are deadly. Passing illegally, lane-hopping at up to 80 miles per hour while crossing over into oncoming traffic, tailgating and ignoring traffic lights and emergency vehicles as part of their daily commute places everyone driving around them at risk of being killed or injured.

Drivers are completely wrong to assume that they are entitled to risk our lives because they refuse to get out of bed a little earlier. There should be more police presence, more traffic citations issued, higher fines and stronger penalties for repeat offenders. Reckless driving is as lethal as driving drunk.
