No question that Saddam Hussein is a brutal tyrant. But why is it that in the State of the Union address, President Bush repeatedly said he is called to Iraq to rid us of Hussein? Why is he not called to help our troubled economy? Presumably Bush is called on by God to lead our men and women into battle. Countless wars have been waged in the name of God–or Allah–but does not God hear the worries and cries and tears of those right here in the U.S. desperate for jobs, worried about health care, terrified by the future? Or does Bush just have selective hearing?
