Dr. Robert C. Glover, 88, a longtime Evanston veterinarian and a former president of the Illinois State Veterinary Association and the Chicago Veterinary Association, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, in his Port Richey, Fla., home. Dr. Glover received his doctor of veterinary medicine in 1942 from Ohio State University. He and his wife, Margaret, moved to Rogers Park in the early 1940s and settled on Evanston’s North Side in 1951. Dr. Glover worked at Bramer Animal Hospital, an Evanston clinic he bought in 1953. He later opened Dempster Animal Clinic in Skokie. Among those who brought their family pets to Dr. Glover for care were sportscaster Jack Brickhouse and Hall of Fame umpire John “Jocko” Conlon, Dr. Glover’s family said. Dr. Glover served on the board of the Veterinary College at the University of Illinois and in 1969 received the Illinois State Veterinary Medicine Association’s Veterinary Service Award. While growing up in Kansas, Dr. Glover kept a raccoon named Rocco. Many years later, after a client brought an injured squirrel to the Evanston clinic, he took the animal home and named it Charlie. “We always had at least two dogs–dachshunds,” said his daughter, Laura Knox. “And we always had two cats.” After retiring to Florida in 1977, Dr. Glover bought a horse and rode into his 70s. Besides his wife and daughter, survivors include a son, Hal; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday in Florida.
