Maureen Zeeb was born in Chicago on Dec. 11, 1941 and she passed away on Jan. 25, 2003. She lived a full and meaningful life. Maureen married her husband, Larry Zeeb Sr., in 1964 and they raised four children. Maureen and her family lived in Racine, WI, Frankfort, IL and Gilbert, AZ and she made wonderful friends in each of those places. Maureen and her family have fond memories of traveling together and spending time with family friends and relatives. Maureen worked as a teacher and as an administrator in programs for children with special needs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. After earning her Master’s Degree in Special Education, she began to work as an advocate for individuals with disabilities with the Illinois Department of Guardianship and Advocacy. From 1990-2002, Maureen worked as a Mental Health Advocate for Arizona Center for Disability Law. In this position, she assisted people with serious mental health issues in the process of securing their rights and finding the resources they needed to build meaningful lives in the community. She loved her work and her co-workers at Arizona Center for Disability Law. She also gave her time to non-profit organizations, serving as President of Parent Power in Illinois and as President of the East Valley Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Arizona. Maureen’s husband, Larry, died on Feb. 3, 2001. She is survived and deeply loved by her children, Kristen Joy, Mary Kay, Michael and Larry, all from Phoenix; by her mother, Mary Duffy from Sun City West, AZ; by her sisters, Patricia Bradley and JoAnne Wurst; her brothers, Jim and John Duffy; and by many other beloved friends and relatives. Maureen’s Memorial Service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at the Neuman Center (Old Chapel), 230 East University Drive, Tempe, AZ, 85281.
