Like Pokemon and Transformers, Hot Wheels is revving up for a trip from the toy chest to the big screen.

Columbia Pictures has obtained the movie rights to the popular Mattel toy cars, says The Hollywood Reporter, and has signed up “Charlie’s Angels” director McG.

McG, who also writes and directs Fox’s “Fastlane,” tells The Reporter the movie will be a love story with “all the warmth and humanity of your favorite James Dean movie with … the hottest collection of automobiles ever brought to the screen.”
