I have a great respect and admiration for all astronauts, and the loss of seven of them on the Columbia is indeed a tragedy.
But do we really need to continue the NASA space program as is?
Even though it can be cogently argued that space exploration does contribute to the common good, I would say that billions of dollars used for such exploration should instead be used for more pressing societal issues, such as improving family life in all respects.
