Massive Attack
100th Window
Since setting the standard for trip-hop with its essential 1991 “Blue Lines,” Bristol, England’s Massive Attack has continued to refine and mutate its increasingly uncategorizable music. “100th Window,” the band’s fourth album, followed a nearly five-year wait. Enlisting Sinead O’Connor on several tracks was a smart move, as her icy vocals match the starkness of songs such as “What Your Soul Sings” and “Special Cases.” But as cool as it sounds, the disc still doesn’t quite push the group forward as much as its predecessors did.
