Why all the hullabaloo about weather? There is nothing we can do about it, so let’s be glad we are alive and that we can enjoy the changes from day to day.

I was raised in northern Minnesota, where the temperature sometimes dipped to 52 degrees below zero, and we never heard of “wind chill.” We either bundled up for it or stayed indoors, knowing that this extreme temperature could last.

I suppose weather is a safe topic of conversation. Dwelling on any subject makes it worse. After all, this is winter in the Midwest. What do we expect, Florida temperatures?

And snow is beautiful. Do we ever take time to catch a few flakes on a dark coat sleeve and examine each exquisite flake? They are the flowers of winter and one of nature’s wonders.

Snow purifies the air and provides nitrogen and moisture for the soil, both so necessary for growing things.

It also gives our city a face washing.

So let’s all think snow and winter and enjoy this Earth’s blessing. Let’s be glad we live in the North with no earthquakes, and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

But quietly.
