– California is requiring General Motors to extend its fuel-injector warranty on about 700,000 light- and medium-duty sport-utility vehicles, trucks and vans with 4.3-, 5- and 5.7-liter engines dating from the 1996 model year. The regulators say the warranty extensions will protect air quality by helping vehicle owners repair fuel-injection systems that can spew more pollution if they are not working properly.

– Beginning Feb. 21, children age 4 through 7 cannot legally ride in a car or light truck in Pennsylvania unless strapped onto a booster seat. The law aims to protect them from injuries related to ill-fitting, adult-size safety belts. Congress has ordered the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to study the seats and write crash standards for manufacturers for children 50 pounds and heavier. The agency has yet to announce a timetable.
