Chrysler says that after a full investigation by its inspectors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the government has closed a probe into inadvertent backward movement of 1993-2003 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Chrysler says NHTSA determined there was no defect, though the company last year recalled some 1.6 million of the vehicles to install a device in the shifter assembly.
