It was with a sick heart that I read about the cruelty inflicted on greyhounds (“For many of Spain’s racing dogs, the end is always near; Owners usually hang greyhounds after 2 years,” News, Feb. 14). I don’t understand why anyone would think it acceptable to treat dogs (or any animal) in such a sadistic way. With all the other issues going on in this world right now, I hope this does not get overlooked.
Are there international agencies that could exert some pressure on the Spanish government to stop this abuse?
For what it’s worth, I plan on writing a letter to the Spanish ambassador in Washington. I hope others will do the same.
