China will strive to resume dialogue with rival Taiwan as soon as possible and push to lift a decades-old ban on direct trade, transport and mail links, Premier Zhu Rongji is expected to say Wednesday. In a speech due for delivery to parliament, Zhu also says China is opposed to Taiwan independence but, in a departure from the norm, will not repeat its threat to invade the island of 23 million people if it declares independence.
