I couldn’t believe the March 10 editorial “Torture and the terror master,” which stated, “There may be instances where the stakes are so high and circumstances so urgent that torture would be warranted.”

All the qualifications and distinctions notwithstanding, have we conveniently made the end justify the means? Do we have some special privilege to disregard international law, which clearly condemns torture?

Have we turned into our own enemy?
