RedEye isn’t sure why fridges get only a week, given that lawn mowers get a whole month–March is National Mower Tune-Up Month–but so it is.
The promoters of fridge week–unsurprisingly Whirlpool and Glad–did a survey that found that only 25 percent of Americans clean out their refrigerators at least once a year. Even grosser: 5 percent have never cleaned the fridge.
The sponsors are touting Refrigerator Week as a way to ensure that we keep our food fresher. And our fridges less smelly.
