I admit that Mayor Daley has done a remarkable job as mayor of Chicago–except to think that handgun ownership within city limits isn’t justified. He believes that outlawing guns to a law-abiding citizen will eliminate the amount of weapons on the street.

The fact is, firearms will always get into the hands of irresponsible human beings with evil intentions–this dilemma will always plague the police force. By allowing Chicago citizens to own firearms adds an “element of surprise.” Now burglars and thieves alike would be placed in a compromising position. In fact, I believe that Illinois should pass the concealed weapons act. It’s a much riskier proposition to pull a gun on someone in a robbery when that person might very well return fire.
