– The Michigan House has approved a bill to lift the cap on spending for Amtrak to keep open two of its passenger rail lines. This would appropriate more than $5.7 million for the Chicago-to-Toronto and Chicago-to-Grand Rapids lines. Amtrak says it needs $7.1 million from Michigan this fiscal year to continue the routes. A six-month contract for $2.85 million expires Monday, but Amtrak will continue service for another 45 days while talks are under way.
