After his former employee (former Daytona Cub Jae-Kuk Ryu) repeatedly pitched at–and, it now transpires, killed–an osprey, Daytona Cubs general manager Buck Rogers is reported to have said, “This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. It was a bird.”

No, Rogers, I think the public outcry is spot on. Ryu used his pitching skills–for which the Daytona Cubs were paying him–not to win a game but to break an international law. Who needs a guy like that? Unlike ospreys, young pitchers aren’t an endangered species. Let’s hope Ryu gets something thrown at him soon: the book.
