This note is to all of the people complaining about how much they hate the Soldier Field renovation: I like it. I think it’s cool. I like the steel, I like the glass, I like the way they’ve preserved the colonnades and the name. I like that they are planting acres of new trees and plants all around it so it fits in well with the neighboring Museum Campus. I like that the toilets won’t overflow anymore and the seats will be more comfortable and more people will get to come see games. I like looking out my South Michigan Avenue apartment window and seeing the sun glint off the stadium every morning, and I like proudly pointing it out along with the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium to my visitors. It’s not perfect, but I think the planners did a great job of trying to make everyone happy, which is impossible anyway. Well done.
