I can see a number of advantages to restoring the military draft. It would create jobs, a much-needed boost for the floundering economy. It would restore genuine patriotism, because, for a democracy to thrive, its citizens must be prepared to defend their country. Finally, it would serve as a brake on ill-considered military adventures.
