U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) was right to blast President Bush for his ridiculous and disgraceful appearance in a fighter pilot jumpsuit on the USS Abraham Lincoln last week (“Senator blasts Bush’s carrier appearance,” News, May 7). Bush staged this phony media event to kick off his presidential campaign by celebrating his phony “victory” over a weak, poverty-stricken country that didn’t even have an air force to defend itself.
