Gov. Rod Blagojevich toured tornado-ravaged neighborhoods Monday and pledged to rebuild communities across Illinois that are still digging out from a wave of spring storms over the last week.

Amid the roar of chain saws in South Pekin, Blagojevich declared 14 Illinois counties state disaster areas, which will mean state manpower and equipment to help with cleanup efforts.

The declaration also enables Illinois to apply for federal assistance to aid recovery in Adams, Alexander, Brown, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Mason, Massac, McDonough, Pope, Pulaski, Schuyler, Tazewell and Woodford Counties.
