Chicago hospitals to receive mock patients today
The Department of Homeland Security has begun a weeklong drill
to test agencies’ responses to a terrorist attack in the Chicago
area. The drill, which simulates the release of a deadly pathogen,
includes exercises that might be noticeable to residents and
motorists. Related exercises also began in Seattle. Story, Section 1,

TUESDAY
Following the imagined release of pneumonic plague Saturday, mock patients show up at Chicago-area hospitals complaining of flulike symptoms.
WEDNESDAY
Taylor Street from Clinton to Jefferson Streets will be closed from about 3-7 p.m. A police motorcade will travel the Kennedy Expressway to downtown.
THURSDAY
9 a.m.: Bedford Park: Mock hazardous materials incident and building collapse
10 a.m.: Health officials give medications to crowds at five area locations.
6 p.m.: Midway Airport: Simulated aircraft crash causes noise and smoke.
9 p.m.: 1700 W. 39th St.: Police raid mock bioterrorism lab.
WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE THURSDAY
Bedford Park area: Traffic delays, emergency vehicles and equipment
1400 block of North Larrabee Street: No parking for several hours starting at 8 a.m.; CTA buses and volunteers will line the street
Near Midway Airport: 55th Street from Laramie to Central Avenues will be closed for several hours starting at 5 p.m.; mock victims will wear makeup to resemble injuries.
1700 W. 39th St.: Helicopters, bright flashes from simulated devices
