The wife of a Chicago firefighter who disappeared from his home in Edison Park early Thursday, after sending friends a despondent e-mail, is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his safe return.
“He’s everything to me,” Julie Welch said Monday, after a news conference in which she asked anyone with information about David “Scotty” Welch to call 847-650-1079.
David Welch, 46, disappeared from the couple’s home in the 7700 block of West Jerome Street after e-mailing about 15 friends and family members that he was worried that his life had lost meaning. The e-mail ended with the message, “To Julie: I’m sorry and I love you very much,” Julie Welch said.
She said she and her husband, who was recovering from surgery for a knee injury at work, had gone to bed around 11 p.m. Wednesday. At 2 a.m. Thursday, she was awakened by a phone call from a friend who was concerned about an e-mail Welch had sent at 1:22 a.m. Welch has been missing ever since.
