The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering an investigation into 1.4 million 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier; Pontiac Sunfire and Grand Am; Oldsmobile Achieva; and Buick Skylark vehicles because of an air-bag defect in Canadian models. General Motors told owners of 224,000 cars in Canada that the air bag can deploy if a sensor is triggered by water.
